The Ontario Rural Wastewater Centre was created in 1998 by the University
of Guelph (Campus
d'Alfred and the School
of Engineering) in partnership with the Rideau
Valley Conservation Authority and many industry and government
stakeholders. The Centre was initially supported through public
and private sponsorship with a business plan developed by
an industry advisory committee. The operation of the ORWC
is now supported to a large extent through revenues from course
delivery, research grants and public projects. The Centre
remains grateful to all the public
and private sponsors.
The Wastewater Centre has been a strong supporter of the
onsite industry including the Ontario
Onsite Wastewater Association (OOWA) and the Ontario
Association of Sewage Industry Services (OASIS). For the
past 7 years, the Wastewater Centre and OOWA have cohosted
the Annual Ontario Onsite Wastewater Conference & Exhibition
around the province. All members of the Wastewater Centre
team are active members of OOWA.
